Bucharest is an absolutely amazing city -- I can't believe I got this assignment!

Too bad I didn't get any pictures of me panhandling for cab fare in the airport or of the Arcul de Triumf aka Arc de Triomphe (just like Paris!)

My hotel can't seem to decide if they want to be old or new

The room was much larger (and nicer) than I expected -- BONUS!

This is only about 1/3 of the breakfast spread; so many choices...

Antipa Museum of Natural History. I enjoyed an afternoon there

I said NOBODY would guess this one; how did that little urchin know??

Cercul Militar National

The Parliament (People's) Palace; second largest administrative building in the world. Do you know what is the largest?

Walked two miles in the rain and no makeup but I don't look any worse than usual. Took a tour with an English-speaking guide--very informative

Ceausescu spared no expense in making this place and it shows everywhere. Apparently many lives were lost, too!

The view from the top on this rainy day was probably more sinister than usual but you get a sense of what Ceausescu was going for

National Museum Of Romanian History

What the hell is THIS???

I was impressed by the number of universities in Bucharest

What city would be complete without an art museum?

And of course there were LOTS of cathedrals

There were so many beautiful churches; here is one of my favorites

The Odeon Theater. I wanted to see a show there; maybe next time

An unidentified building; homework for the urchin (yes, you, Shannon!)

Another unidentified building; more homework

Palace of the Savings Bank -- even the banks are incredible

I was surprised by the canals, but I am not sure why

Technically the whole town is old, but this part is called olde town

Yes, I actually did have to teach a class; don't my students look great! They were renovating the building and this was the only room with heat

They even gave me gifts (the bracelet is called martisor) probably because March is when they celebrate women. Or maybe they liked me

This is a delicacy in Romania; it is called sarmale and is not as disgusting as it looks. I also tried mamaliga (several times)
